The Learning Lab at Guide Dogs for the Blind’s new Puppy Center allows a window into how their team breeds, socializes, raises and trains guide dogs. The Lab features a viewing gallery into the puppy socialization area and a “real life” room where puppies get to experience a home-like environment. Special consideration was given to protecting the puppies from outside contagions that could be contracted from visitors.
Other exhibits provide stories about the GDB community including graduates and raisers, as well as interactive displays about GDB’s breeding, neonatal care, socializing, puppy raising, and training programs. Working with GDB, West Office designed all exhibits with enhanced accessibility features: high-contrast graphics, AV captioning, audio descriptions for all text, Braille, and touch models of the puppies at different stages of their lives.
